I'm still not writing off Velveeta

I just have to laugh (or cry and rip the magazine to shreds) when I read magazines promoting health and fitness, especially when I am pregnant. Like the time I read an article stating that ramen noodles are the worst possible food a pregnant woman can eat. Really? I recognize that there is no nutritional value going on there but the worst? Seriously people, that statement pretty much discredits the entire magazine for me.

My sister in law Natalie (who is a dietitian, by the way) once placed Velveeta in the category of "lard, plastic, bacon, & 7-11 hot dogs" and I have yet to see any hoity toity magazine writer put Velveeta on their 'do not eat' list. So I say to you stinkin' nutrtional blah blah blah column writers, you try being pregnant- dressing, feeding, and entertaining 3 other children and then tell me that ramen noodles are not okay to eat while pregnant. Occasionally the only cure to a screaming 3 year old is a pack of "curly noodles". For me it's a choice between eating the x-list noodles or eating nothing at all before I run out the door, late again, to pick up another child from a soccer game or preschool or whatever. I surrender to those darn noodles! When life hands you lemons, you make ramen noodles. These NYC magazine writers and editors need to visit planet reality every once in a while.

The other day I was sitting in the the doctor's office reading another magazine and came across an article suggesting that instead of eating an entire cupcake, why don't I eat just half? So what you are saying is that the dozen (or more) cupcakes (they didn't have frosting on them) I ate in the last two days wasn't a good idea? Hmm. Good thing I read this article. I'm pregnant for crying out loud! I'll eat whatever the heck I want - when I want it! And I only gained 1 pound that month anyway. That counts for something, doesn't it?

So there you have it. I have issues. I don't like people telling me what to eat. It's hard enough making sure I'm sleeping on my left side and dragging this big ole belly around. I haven't even gotten into the peeing 3 times in 10 minutes thing. Or the wonky belly button thing. Or the waking up 4 times a night to pee thing. Maybe that has something to do with the being so tired I can barely keep my eyes open thing.

Did I mention that I love being pregnant? Okay, really, it's great and all but I just don't like people telling me how to do it. There are so many things to worry about. Being a mama is hard. Whether they are in or out, the worries never stop. And when I think of my worries, I certainly don't need "ramen noodles" to be at the top of my list.

Oh, Nat. That baby needs to come out, doesn't it? Each pregnancy gets harder and harder, especially at the end. And I agree about the ramen noodles. My kids love them and they are great on a really busy night! But I do steam veggies and mix them in for some sort of nutrition!

Amen! But I don't eat much ramen. I'd rather have a PBJ or something. But I have plenty of other issues. Something about this being my sixth and my body is revolting (mutany type rather than the discusting type although it is a bit of that too). I'm already at my delivery weight of the first 4 kids and I have ten weeks left. My face has a dry rash that won't go away, my legs (veins) are ugly and painful, etc. Well, good luck to you in your last couple weeks!

I haven't looked at your blog in a while and this totally made my day! If it makes you feel better, here in Hawaii they have Ramen noodle RESTAURANTS. I'm not kidding, there are whole chains of them. Some are even just called "ramen". They add stuff to it (like spam--again, not kidding), but it's just Ramen. It's a Japanese thing snd they're a pretty healthy people. Good luck with #4! --Mindy

I have NEVER had Ramon noodles. I do remember the first time I met you, you were sitting on your bed eating ramon noodles with Micah. =) I remember tons of kids in my school use to just love the noodles in a bag? ICIBAN ?? It's pronounce itchy ban. Anyway, they'd scrunch them up real good then throw the powder on top and just eat them raw like that. My mom was always scared I'd get tape worm or something. Anyway...Just memories.

Anway...if it makes you feel any better, Ryan counted my Diet Dr Pepper intake last night and discovered I go through 10 a day. I'm in trouble. What's my excuse? Whatever makes you function right? LOL Am I reaching?

AMEN! Live it up -- you only get to pregnant for *so* many years, you know. Enjoy the "eating for two" excuse while you can! :)

Wo-Sista! I am glad that my job isn't to counsel pregnant women- apparently the hormones take over and turn your brain into a bowl of curly ramen noodles......So Russ loves them, my brothers love them, and occasionally that is the only thing that sounds good to me to eat. But the magazines have GOT to go......there are no "bad" foods....unless you have kidney failure...

You are hilarious! Velveeta reminds me of our college days (or should I say nights). I agree with the fact that a pregnant woman can eat whatever the heck they want! :)

This is seriously hilarious and SO TRUE! When I was pregnant my sister-n-law gave me the book "what to eat when you're expecting". I don't know if there was any foods left that you COULD eat after reading that book. So, I did just what you are doing and ate what I wanted! Good for you!

You are way to funny. I can see you saying all this. I agree. I never cooked when I was pregnant. Hummm. I wonder what my excuse is for not cooking now. ????
